Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking an Embedded Developer who will be responsible for the execution and quality of firmware code for Geotab's core telematics and hardware devices. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do:

As an Embedded Developer at Geotab, your key area of responsibility will be designing, writing, and testing high-quality firmware for Geotab's IoT and telematics devices across a variety of environments — including RTOS, Embedded Linux, and bare-metal. You will be responsible for developing modular, reusable, hardware-independent software in C, C++, and other languages, as well as performing unit, integration, and system-level testing to validate feature requirements. You will need to work closely with hardware teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration, and collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to deliver features on time and to specification.

To be successful in this role you will be a detail-oriented engineer with strong analytical skills and the ability to research and solve open-ended design problems independently. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to communicate complex technical decisions effectively, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a collaborative, Agile development environment.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Develop and maintain firmware for Geotab's IoT and telematics devices across RTOS, Embedded Linux, and bare-metal environments using C, C++, and other languages.

  • Write scalable, secure, and high-quality embedded software adhering to Geotab's development standards and test-driven development principles.

  • Design and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests in real and simulated environments to validate feature requirements and ensure product quality.

  • Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate components seamlessly, reading data sheets and schematics to design and write the appropriate software.

  • Debug firmware issues using specialized diagnostic tools including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and JTAG interfaces.

  • Conduct thorough code reviews and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and adherence to industry coding standards.

What you'll bring to this role:

  • 1–3 years of experience in embedded software development, with proficiency in C for RTOS and/or multi-threaded Linux environments.

  • Experience programming in C++, Rust, or GoLang is highly valued.

  • Practical knowledge of microcontroller design and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN), with the ability to read schematics and data sheets.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python) and test frameworks such as Pytest or Robot Framework.

  • Familiarity with version control (GIT), CI/CD tools, and project management platforms such as JIRA.

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
