What you'll do:
As a Senior Software Developer your key area of responsibility will be to build and scale our advanced telematics platform. You will be responsible for writing scalable, high-quality, and secure software across various programming languages, conducting peer reviews to ensure coding standards are followed, and providing technical support to staff and resellers. You will also need to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs by analyzing call stacks, trace files, and performance data. You will need to work closely with Leads and senior leaders to research new technologies and offer recommendations, as well as provide guidance to more junior team members.
To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and project management skills with an ability to ensure functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability for each assignment. The successful candidate will also be able to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.
How you'll make an impact:
- Listen and contribute to design discussions and make detailed notes and documenting requirements and technical design.
- Provide guidance to more junior team members, sharing knowledge across the teams.
- Write scalable, high quality and secure software in a variety of programming languages and environments, such as C#, Java, JavaScript, SQL.
- Perform quality assurance by doing peer review, ensuring coding standards are followed, looking for logic errors and other bugs.
- Analyze call stacks, trace files, performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
- Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and proofs of concept.
- Provide assistance to our support staff and resellers from a technical perspective. This may be in the form of on-call or ad-hoc questions relating to how certain features work or verifying the behaviour by reviewing code.
- Research new language features, frameworks and other relevant technologies and offer recommendations to Leads and senior leaders.
- Assist in defining best practices to be used in the team.
- Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
- Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in full-stack software development.
- Proficient in C# or Java, with strong knowledge of object-oriented design, unit testing, optimization, and multithreaded programming.
- Some experience with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
- Experience with additional languages and technologies is a plus, including Python, TypeScript, ES6, .NET Core, Google Compute Engine, and Google BigQuery.
- Working knowledge of Cloud computing experience with GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.
- A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
