What you'll do:
As an Associate Vice President of Embedded Engineering, your key area of responsibility will be managing engineering teams, planning group activities, and overseeing platform integration initiatives to continuously improve and innovate Geotab's product offerings. You'll need to work closely with various internal teams to achieve these objectives. To be successful in this role, you'll be an expert in embedded engineering. In addition, the successful candidate will have the strategic capability to serve as the Site Leader for the local office, overseeing its establishment, operations, and the strategic recruitment of specialized automotive talent.
How you'll make an impact:

Define and drive the strategic vision for the OEM and Platform Integration group in collaboration with the Vice President and other senior leaders.

Lead and manage multiple team leads and managers, fostering a culture of mentorship, continuous improvement, and growth within the engineering teams.

Oversee overall group staffing needs, partnering with the VP on resource planning and forecasting net new hires.

Manage Geotab’s embedded software platform and deployment for various customer verticals (e.g., OEM, IOX).

Collaborate with senior department leaders to define, implement, and manage the product development process.

Ensure project progress aligns with schedules and provide timely updates to stakeholders.Implement and manage an Agile development process across all teams within the group.

Participate in cross-functional meetings, actively removing roadblocks for team members.

Collaborate with other development teams on the design and implementation of features spanning multiple products.

Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of telematics device vehicle data systems.

Plan, evaluate, and enhance the efficiency of business processes and procedures to improve speed, quality, and output.

Oversee and participate in efforts to integrate data from various sources, including onboard sensors and telematics.

Establish and enforce data quality standards and best practices.

Work closely with stakeholders to understand data needs and provide effective solutions.

Support Geotab's global strategic initiatives.

Site Leader Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the establishment and operationalization of the local office, including oversight of office space, IT infrastructure, and specialized lab equipment setup.

Develop and execute a local recruitment strategy for automotive reverse engineering talent, embedded developers, and software developers, including coordinating local hiring events and establishing Geotab's presence in the local tech community.

Manage local office operations, ensuring a secure, productive, and collaborative work environment that complies with all local regulations and company policies.

Serve as the primary local representative for Geotab in the local area, building relationships with local academic institutions, industry partners, and the broader tech ecosystem.

Oversee physical and data security protocols specific to the local automotive lab, ensuring the protection of sensitive reverse engineering data and intellectual property.

Manage the local office budget for initial setup costs and ongoing operational expenses.

Foster a strong, positive, and inclusive company culture within the local office, aligned with Geotab's overall values.

Ensure adherence to all relevant automotive industry standards and compliance regulations within the local operations.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities specifically tailored for the local-based engineering teams.

Expertise in vehicle architecture, embedded systems, and CAN bus communication protocols.

Experience working with OEM vehicle architectures is highly desirable.

Knowledge of in-vehicle-infotainment (IVI) and vehicle cybersecurity aspects is preferred.

Proven experience in establishing and scaling new office locations, particularly for technical teams.

Strong understanding of the local automotive and tech talent landscape, with established professional networks in the region.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational logistics, including real estate, IT infrastructure, and specialized lab setup.

Knowledge of local business regulations, labor laws, and compliance requirements in Michigan.

Expertise in physical and data security best practices relevant to sensitive intellectual property and automotive testing environments.
