What you’ll do

As a Senior Product Designer your key area of responsibility will be responsible for driving design initiatives in cross-functional teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration and ensuring the seamless integration of design solutions throughout the product development lifecycle. You will also need to work independently withmanufacturers, hardware product engineers, developers and product managers to ensure the successful implementation of design solutions, providing guidance and support throughout the development process. You will work closely with Geotab's Product Management, Development and Data & Analytics teams. To be successful in this role you will be a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be able to communicate complex ideas, goals, and problems in a way that is accessible even to those unfamiliar with the project. In addition, the successful candidate will be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. As part of the role, you must support the development of a cohesive visual language across all physical and digital products that reinforces the brand's identity and commitment to environmental responsibility, ensuring all product designs and materials adhere to brand guidelines and sustainability practices.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Design intuitive and aesthetically pleasing products and packaging, improving the end-to-end user experience.

  • Responsible for driving design initiatives in cross-functional teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration and ensuring the seamless integration of design solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Take a proactive role in identifying opportunities to enhance design capabilities and effectiveness, initiating improvements in design methodologies, tools, and workflows to optimize efficiency and deliver exceptional user experiences.

  • Conduct research, user testing, and analysis to gain deep insights into user behaviors, preferences, and pain points, guiding the development of user-centered design solutions.

  • Take responsibility for knowledge sharing within the design team, mentoring and supporting junior designers to foster their professional growth and excellence.

  • Advise manager on user-centric design principles and best practices, ensuring that design solutions align with user needs and industry standards.

  • Gather requirements and align design efforts with business objectives, actively seeking opportunities to improve the overall product experience.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices, continuously evolving design skills and knowledge.

  • Advise on design concepts and communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders, presenting design solutions and justifying design decisions based on user research and data.

  • Work independently with developers and product managers to ensure the successful implementation of design solutions, providing guidance and support throughout the development process.

  • Champion the adoption and evolution of a design system, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive its implementation and maintenance by establishing and encouraging the adoption of design system guidelines

  • Lead efforts within a cross-functional team to advocate and contribute to our design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across products and platforms.

  • Mentor earlier stage designers across the design team; leveling up the team, helping to improve best practices, processes and tooling.

  • Help build a high-functioning design team and culture; contributing to hiring processes, providing thoughtful feedback in design critiques, identifying internal and external opportunities to level up design at Geotab.

What you’ll bring to this role
  • A portfolio showcasing excellence in industrial design, particularly within the tech or IoT sectors.

  • Expertise in design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite) and understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • 5-8 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Deep knowledge of product design, including common interaction patterns used and associated trade-offs, and best practices for responsive web applications.

  • Experience collaborating closely with product management, engineering, and research.

  • Proficiency in UI design and using tools like Figma, Sketch, InVision, Principle, etc.

  • Ability to lead all aspects of the user-centered design process from conception to completion.

  • Ability to develop high-level design strategy and vision.

  • Communicate complex ideas, goals, and problems in a way that is accessible even to those unfamiliar with the project.

  • Must have the flexibility to adapt to growing technology and market demands.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship building skills.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

  • Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma i.e. Specialization in Design, HCI, User Experience, Research Psychology, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
