Geotab is seeking a Senior Data Science, Team Lead who will lead a technical team of data scientists in order to gain useful insight out of raw data, plan projects, and build analytical models. What you’ll do:
As a Senior Data Science, Team Lead your key area of responsibility will be to Manage a team of data scientists in the implementation of new statistical or mathematical methodologies for specific models or analysis. You will need to work closely with the Automotive department, as well as Solutions Engineering, Software Development, and key leadership stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and project management skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through completion. The successful candidate will also be able to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.
How you'll make an impact
Manage a team of data scientists in the implementation of new statistical or mathematical methodologies for specific models or analysis.
Develop predictive and/or prescriptive vehicle maintenance models.
Interact with Geotab’s big data infrastructure using cloud-based data warehouses (i.e. Google BigQuery) and various programming languages (i.e. SQL, Python).
Research and develop statistical and machine learning models for data analysis.
Mine and analyze company data to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques, and business strategies.
Test performance of data-driven products.
Ensure data quality and integrity.
Develop and implement strategies with the team to assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
Work with stakeholders throughout Geotab to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
Support Geotab global strategic initiatives.
Oversee the activities and performance of direct reports:
Provide direction, coaching, and mentorship to the team.
Resolve interpersonal and technical conflict
Coach, provide timely, actionable feedback, and invest time in career development of team members
Actively works on retention and engagement of team members including upskilling/developing and career progression for team.
Collaborate with employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs, and career development planning.
What you’ll bring to this role
Post-secondary Diploma/Degree specialization in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
6+ years experience as a Data Scientist or similar role.
3+ years experience with vehicle systems, including controls systems, diagnostics and electrical/ communications architectures.
Experience with vehicle interfacing and analysis tools and automotive diagnostic scan tools.
Experience with automotive diagnostic standards (e.g. SAE J1939, SAEJ1979, KWP/2000, UDS 14229, ISO 27145 WWH-OBD) an asset.
3+ years of relevant people management experience/people leadership.
Experience in writing SQL queries.
Experience in programming in Python.
Solid understanding of machine learning and operations research.
Knowledge of data management and visualization techniques.
Affinity for statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
Experience working within a technical or engineering organization, with knowledge of the high-technology industry is an asset.
High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through to completion.
Must stay relevant to technology and have the flexibility to adapt to the growing technology and market demands.
Leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.
Success with coaching and development of employees.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve to well-judged decisions.
Strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
