Who you are

Geotab is seeking a Learning Content Writer to manage to develop content to support the initiatives of the Learning Design Team. If you love technology, have strong passion for writing and learning and are keen to join a technology leader - we would love to hear from you!

What you’ll do:

The Learning Content Writer is responsible for the development of written content (grammar, edits, logic, flow of content, learning objectives, eLearning content, etc.) pertaining to learning materials, support documentation and establishment of learning and exploratory opportunities for the Learning Design Team. This position will translate complex and technical jargon into an easy to understand format for adult learners.

In addition, the successful candidate will have strong project management skills and are able to identify needs, develop effective solutions and manage projects through completion. The successful candidate will also be a strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Review, edit, create, and rewrite training-related documents (presentation decks, video scripts, storyboards, knowledge assessments, closed captioning, curriculum, etc.) and transcripts from various media prior to the instructional design phase.

  • Collaborate with other departments and subject matter experts (SMEs) in the collection and development of learning content (e.g. reseller, new hire, departmental training).

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive list of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) directly related to this role with a minimum of a biannual review/sign off.

  • Translate complex and technical information into an intuitive and straightforward format that is easy to digest requiring fewer instructions and an increase in comprehension.

  • Work closely with the localization team to ensure the English version is current, up to date and receive a sign off from the SMEs prior to translation.

  • Standardize Learning Design material across various media (decks, documents) according to current templates, branding standards, and style guidelines.

  • Assist in the development of the Geotab Technical Publications Style guide for technical writing.

  • Recommend new tools, support materials and learning opportunities for the Learning Design Team at a minimum of a biannual basis.

  • Support Geotab global strategic initiatives by working efficiently and effectively leveraging resources and relationships to ensure the highest level of quality and customer service.

What you’ll bring to this role
  • 3-5 years experience in Instructional Writing, Technical Writing or a similar role.

  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma Specialization in Technical Communications, Communications, English, Journalism or a related field.

  • Experience working within a technical or engineering organization/knowledge of the high-technology industry is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of LMS and marketing strategies.

  • Experience developing and enforcing style guidelines.

  • Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines.

  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
